Rocky Dawuni earns 4th Grammy nomination in 67th edition

Ghanaian Afro-Roots musician Rocky Dawuni has earned his fourth Grammy nomination, this time in the Best Global Music Performance category for his song "Rise". The announcement comes ahead of the 2025 Grammy Awards, where Rocky will compete alongside some of the biggest names in global music, including Angélique Kidjo, the Soweto Gospel Choir, Arooj Aftab, and Jacob Collier, among others.

This recognition is part of a growing legacy for Rocky Dawuni at the Grammys. In 2022, his album "Voice of Bunbon Vol. 1" was nominated in the Best Global Music Album category, marking another significant milestone in his career. His breakthrough came in 2015 when his album "Branches of the Same Tree" was nominated for Best Reggae Album, a testament to his versatile style and international appeal. Now, with "Rise", Rocky continues to showcase his unique blend of African rhythms, roots, and contemporary sounds.

The competition in the Best Global Music Performance category is fierce. Alongside Rocky Dawuni's "Rise", the nominees include "Sunlight to My Soul" by Angélique Kidjo & the Soweto Gospel Choir, "Raat Ki Rani" by Arooj Aftab, "A Rock Somewhere" by Jacob Collier featuring Anoushka Shankar and Varijashree Venugopal, "Kashira" by Masa Takumi featuring Ron Korb, Noshir Mody, and Dale Edward Chung, and "Bemba Colorá" by Sheila E., featuring Gloria Estefan and Mimy Succar.

Additionally, several African artists have been nominated in the Best African Music Performance category, including Asake & Wizkid for "MMS", Burna Boy with "Higher", Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay with "Sensational", Tems for "Love Me JeJe", and Yemi Alade with "Tomorrow". The inclusion of Rocky Dawuni and these distinguished artists highlights the growing influence and recognition of African music on the global stage.

The 2025 Grammy Awards will be held on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. As always, the event promises to be a celebration of the diverse and vibrant sounds that define the global music landscape. With multiple nominations in key categories, the upcoming ceremony is set to be a memorable one for both Rocky Dawuni and the global music community.
