Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, has denied media allegations that he ran away from Parliament out of fear for the Members of Parliament of the National Democratic Congress.

Agyapong, a loud and sometimes controversial figure among the ranks of the New Patriotic Party, was responding to accusations following a heated incident that took place in parliament when tensions between MPs of the ruling party-the NPP-and those of the opposition NDC were running high. Some critics had taken to suggesting that Agyapong-one prone to fiery speeches and often described as confrontational-had suddenly left the chamber because he was intimidated by the opposition.

In a statement through his aide, Agyapong said he was sad over the "misinformation and deliberate distortion of facts" from the incident. "I did not run away, nor was I scared of any member of the NDC. The claims being circulated are baseless and meant to tarnish my reputation.

Agyapong said he left the Parliament because the session was gradually becoming unproductive and disorderly, not because he was afraid of the opposition members. "There was nothing constructive happening in the House at the time, and I saw no reason to stay. I chose to leave and focus on more pressing matters that affect my constituents and the country at large," he added.

The controversial MP further reiterated that his stance on key national issues has never been shaky, hence his commitment to serving the people of Assin Central remains intact.

Political analysts have suggested that it is an incident, in which growing animosity between MPs from both sides of the House is highlighted, where the NDC continues to press its agenda on government policies and the NPP, including Agyapong, are vocal in opposition to several of the criticisms coming from the NDC.

Agyapong responds when it would appear as if tension within Parliament is about to escalate into fever pitch with the NPP and the NDC pointing accusing fingers at each other for undermining the democratic process. Amidst the drama, Agyapong remains defiant, saying he will continue his work in Parliament.
