Asante Kotoko’s head coach, Prosper Ogum, has called on the club's supporters to remain patient and supportive following a series of disappointing results in the Ghana Premier League. The Porcupine Warriors recently suffered their third consecutive league loss, falling 1-0 to Bechem United at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, with Kofi Tompo’s early volley sealing the game for the hosts. This defeat compounds an already challenging period for Kotoko, who now find themselves without a win in their last four games.
Despite beginning the season with a strong showing, winning four of their first six games, Kotoko’s recent form has seen them drop to sixth place in the league. Fans have voiced frustration as the team struggles to regain momentum, but Coach Ogum remains optimistic, asking fans to continue supporting the team as they work to turn things around.
In his post-match interview, Ogum expressed his understanding of fans' disappointment but urged them to trust the process. “This is not the result they were expecting,” he acknowledged. “I want to ask them to be patient with us. We will bounce back strongly and put smiles back on their faces. The players understand the expectations, and I’m confident they will adjust and respond positively.”
Kotoko’s struggles in Bechem are not new, as the team has yet to secure a victory at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park since 2016. The loss to Bechem United adds to their recent defeats against Legon Cities and Heart of Lions, creating an uphill battle for the team as they prepare for a series of challenging matches.
Looking ahead, Kotoko faces a critical stretch of games. Next weekend, they are set to play against Nations FC, the current second-place team in the league, in what has become a must-win fixture. This will be followed by matches against strong opponents, including Aduana Stars and arch-rivals Hearts of Oak. A successful run through these games could reignite the team's season, while further losses could deepen their current crisis.
Ogum remains hopeful that with renewed support and a commitment to improvement, Kotoko can overcome their recent setbacks. “They should just be patient with us,” he added, “still support us, and we’ll make them proud again.”
As the Porcupine Warriors look to regroup, fans’ continued support and patience may prove essential in helping the team return to their winning ways and restore their position in the league.
