A 19-year-old man, Aliyu Yaro, has been arrested by the Nigerian Police for allegedly killing his three-day-old baby in Mubi Local Government Area, Adamawa State. The tragic incident was reported by Safiya, the baby’s mother and Yaro’s girlfriend, who informed the police on November 8, 2024, about her suspicion that her child had been murdered by the father.
According to the police spokesperson, CSP Suleiman Nguroje, the suspect, Aliyu Yaro, confessed to the crime during interrogation. He led investigators to the location where he had buried the newborn. The police were able to exhume the body, confirming the horrific details provided by Yaro.
The police statement outlined that the crime occurred shortly after the infant's birth. Yaro, who is from Kwacham ward in Mubi North Local Government Area, reportedly became involved with Safiya, the mother of the child. Following the birth, Safiya had been urging Yaro to come and take the baby, but it was at night when he allegedly carried out the crime.
Yaro said that he visited Safiya’s home around 9:00 pm, at which point he took the infant, sending Safiya on an errand to fetch water. Once she left, he took the baby and left the house. In a shocking admission, Yaro stated that he then carried the lifeless body of his newborn son to a secluded area in Girpata, Mubi, where he buried the child’s remains. The crime was committed just three days after the baby was born.
The news has shocked the local community, and the Adams State Police Commissioner, Morris Dankombo, expressed his concern over the brutal act. He has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CID) for a thorough investigation. Dankombo emphasized the need for diligent prosecution, promising that justice would be pursued to the fullest extent of the law.
The arrest has drawn widespread attention, with many condemning the act of violence against an innocent child. The police investigation continues as they seek to understand the full circumstances surrounding the crime and ensure that justice is served.
