Amenfi Central: Sekondi High Court Lifts Injunction on NDC's Joana Cudjoe
In a significant development for Amenfi Central’s political landscape, the Sekondi High Court has lifted an injunction that was imposed on Joana Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate. The decision is expected to pave the way for her to fully engage in the ongoing campaign activities ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The injunction, which had been in place for several weeks, was initially sought by members of the constituency who raised issues regarding her selection as the party’s candidate. They questioned the processes leading to her selection, citing irregularities that they claimed violated the party’s internal regulations and protocols. This had created a significant setback for Cudjoe, who has had to suspend her campaign activities in adherence to the court's order.
The ruling by Justice Adjoa Kwesi, who presided over the case, emphasized that the grievances raised were largely procedural issues that did not warrant a legal injunction. The judge also noted that matters relating to candidate selection were, at their core, internal party matters. Justice Kwesi further urged the petitioners to resolve their concerns within the party’s dispute resolution framework. “The court cannot interfere in matters that the party itself can adequately address. Political parties must be allowed to handle their internal matters while complying with constitutional guidelines,” she stated.
Supporters of Joana Cudjoe welcomed the court’s decision with relief, marking it as a victory not just for Cudjoe, but for the Amenfi Central branch of the NDC as a whole. Speaking to the press outside the courthouse, Cudjoe expressed gratitude to her supporters, who have remained steadfast throughout the legal tussle. She assured them of her continued commitment to serving Amenfi Central and working towards development projects that would improve the lives of the people. “This victory is not mine alone; it’s a triumph for all of us who believe in unity and progress. Now we can move forward together to build a better Amenfi Central,” Cudjoe stated.
The ruling has implications for the ongoing political competition within Amenfi Central, as it restores Cudjoe's candidacy and allows her to reconnect with her constituents. The Amenfi Central seat is widely regarded as a battleground, and both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have expressed strong commitments to secure it. Political analysts view this court ruling as a morale booster for the NDC, which has faced internal challenges but aims to unify its members around a strong campaign.
NDC leaders from the region were also present at the court to show support for Cudjoe, underscoring the importance of her role in their broader strategy for the parliamentary elections. Regional executives have called for a renewed push to ensure her victory and consolidate the party's presence in the area.
In the meantime, Cudjoe has resumed her campaign and will be visiting various communities in Amenfi Central in the coming days to re-engage with her constituents and share her vision for the constituency’s future.
