Outrage On Social Media As Another Picture Of Nana Addo Unveiling His Statue In Accra Pops-up Online
President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo has received heavy backlash after videos and pictures of his newly commissioned statue at Effia-Nkwanta, Western Region surfaced online. Ghanaians expressed their surprise and dissatisfaction for such and have questioned so many times if the president deserves it. Many, for instance, claim that statues are monuments done to honor people for their good works and great impact on society, the nation, or the world for which none can be said for the sitting president.
Nana Addo, during his tenure of office as president of the country, has made a huge impact on the country, even though his government had some downfalls. His government implemented the free senior high school policy, which seemed to eliminate financial burden on parents in sponsoring their wards to acquire second cycle education. Other innovative policies include the NABCO programme, reinforced TVET, One District One Factory, One Village One Dam, among others. Angry youth and netizens, however, have advocated for the demolition of the statue. The public has been served with cautions on prosecuting whoever tampers with the statue. The traditional council of the area has released a press statement indicating why the statue was built in honour of the president and hence it should be left alone.
In a post sighted on the official twitter page of Sika Official is another picture of the President commissioning a statue of himself. This came as a shock to Ghanaians thinking the one in Effie Nkwanta is the only statue of the president in the country. This very statue was commissioned in Accra as the "Ga Mantse" is seen standing next to the president during the unveiling. The picture has an official watermark of the presidency hence validating its authenticity.
Netizens have reacted heavily to the picture that has gone viral; below are some comments I gathered from the post.
