The Nkoranza Municipal Peace Committee chaired by Very Rev. Dr. Joe Eyison, on Saturday, 9th November, 2024 organized a peace walk to promote tranquility and stability in Nkoranza in the Bono East region as Ghana prepares for its 2024 general elections.
This initiative, according to the committee aims to foster a culture of peace, positive tolerance, coexistence among party and community members.
The peace walk was emphasized on seeking to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining peace before, during and after the elections with the theme; Together we can build Ghana, so get involved.
The committee's efforts focus on promoting nonviolent conflict resolution and encouraging citizens to exercise their right to vote peacefully.
A peaceful atmosphere allows citizens to cast their ballots freely and without fear of intimidation or violence.
All Political Party Leaders should communicate with their representatives and supporters to ensure that they are informed about the voting process in order to maintain peace and stability in the country. This ensures that elections reflect on the true will of the people. We are all to ensure that the peace of Ghana is not disturbed.
Peace fosters a conducive environment for all political parties to campaign freely, express their views, and reach out to voters. It allows for fair media participation and prevents intimidation or violence against candidates and their supporters.
In an address to the members present, the chairman for the Nkoranza Municipal Peace Committee, Dr. Eyison said the peace walk was part of a broader national effort to ensure peaceful elections.
He therefore urged all stakeholders, including community leaders, youth groups and citizens to join hands in promoting peace and stability during this critical period.
"By working together, Ghanaians can ensure a peaceful and successful electoral process", he said.
The Nkoranza municipal peace committee consists of Traditional leaders, Religious leaders, National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the Media and political leaders in the Nkoranza South municipality.
The peace walk featured impactful placards to remind readers about peace concise, amongst them includes; "peace is costly", "we are not enemies", " together as one", "Ghana is one", " value your life" and many more.
Let's further call on all the citizens to take part in this initiative by actively supporting and promoting peaceful dialogue. "Ensuring a violence-free election this year. It is not only the sole responsibility of the government or institutions," but the citizens as well. It requires each of us to participate and encourage a culture of mutual respect, tolerance, and understanding in the 2024 general elections.
