Ghanaian media personality Kwame Djokoto has publicly condemned Captain Smart, a prominent journalist and broadcaster, for purported personal attacks and alleged criminal behavior. In a recent interview, Djokoto, an outspoken supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed his anger upon learning that Captain Smart had made derogatory remarks about him on television.
Djokoto revealed that he was informed by friends and family about insults from Captain Smart, who allegedly claimed that Djokoto's career was "dead." In response, Djokoto issued a warning to Captain Smart, asserting his preference for respectful and factual discussions rather than personal insults. “Last week, I received calls from loved ones saying that Captain Smart is insulting me, claiming my career is dead. They should convey this message to him—I value respect. He insulted me, but I choose not to retaliate,” Djokoto stated firmly.
He further accused Captain Smart of having a problematic past, suggesting that during Smart's time at Fox FM in Kumasi, he was involved in several criminal cases. Djokoto challenged anyone to check police records from that period to verify his claims. “When you were at Fox FM in Kumasi, we should look at the police reports—it was filled with criminal cases. Have you ever heard of any criminal case against me?” he questioned.
Djokoto also reaffirmed his loyalty to the NDC, arguing that the party is more effective than the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in fostering Ghana's development. “In terms of developing Ghana, the NDC is far superior to the NPP,” he asserted. Moreover, he expressed disbelief that Media General, a major media organization in Ghana, would hire Captain Smart, given his alleged criminal history. “I’m surprised that Media General would employ someone with such a criminal background. Don’t they check backgrounds before hiring?” he questioned.
These comments have ignited a fresh wave of political and personal conflicts within the Ghanaian media landscape, raising concerns about the integrity and accountability of media figures. As the situation evolves, it remains unclear how both Djokoto and Captain Smart will respond to the ongoing controversy.
