Ecuadorian footballer Marco Angulo has tragically passed away at the age of 22, a month after sustaining critical injuries in a car accident. Angulo, who played as a midfielder for LDU Quito while on loan from MLS club FC Cincinnati, was involved in the accident on October 7 in Quito, Ecuador's capital. He was hospitalized immediately following the incident and required several surgeries while spending over a week in intensive care. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, Angulo succumbed to his injuries on Monday night. In response to his passing, the Ecuadorian Football Association released a statement mourning Angulo as not only an outstanding athlete but also a respected teammate whose presence will be deeply missed. They extended their condolences to all who knew him, particularly his teammates and those who shared countless journeys with him.
Further reports from Ecuador revealed that Roberto Cabezas, a fellow footballer from Independiente del Valle, and a friend named Victor Carcopa, also lost their lives in the accident. Two other individuals were reportedly in the vehicle at the time of the crash, though details about their conditions have not been disclosed. Angulo's untimely death leaves a lasting void in Ecuadorian football, with teammates, fans, and the broader community honoring his legacy and mourning a life and career cut tragically short.
