Dreams FC head coach Abdul Karim Zito has praised Black Stars coach Otto Addo, describing him as a disciplined leader and a tactical genius ahead of Ghana’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger. Despite Ghana's challenging start in the qualifiers, Zito, a seasoned Ghanaian coach, commended Addo’s leadership, particularly his disciplined approach and tactical expertise. Zito, speaking to Citi Sports, emphasized that Addo’s strong principles ensure he remains focused on his goals. “This coach you see, nobody can divert his course. You see him, I like him for one thing: he’s very disciplined and very tactical,” Zito remarked, adding that Addo’s methods and vision have been integral to the team’s approach.
Zito also addressed the challenges local players face when trying to break into the national team, particularly when compared to the standards in European football. He pointed out that the transition from local football to the national level can be difficult for local players, who often need to go the extra mile to prove themselves. “When you are in Europe, looking at what Europeans are doing, and then you come to Africa, it will be very difficult for a local player to break in,” Zito said. This remark underscores the competitive environment faced by local players aspiring to play for the Black Stars.
As the Black Stars prepare for their final qualifiers, the team has convened for training in Accra, with eight players participating in the first session at the Accra Sports Stadium. Ghana is determined to overcome their tough start in the qualifiers and secure a spot in the 2025 tournament in Morocco. Currently sitting third in Group F with only two points from four matches, Ghana faces an uphill battle against Angola on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, followed by a home match against Niger Republic three days later.
