Jamal Musiala, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder for both Bayern Munich and the German national team, has been in outstanding form recently, drawing praise for his performances at club and international levels. However, the young star remains focused on continuous improvement, setting his sights on the 2026 World Cup and emphasizing the importance of consistent work rather than getting distracted by the media’s glowing reviews.
Musiala, who scored the winning goal in Bayern Munich’s last two matches, has already netted five times in the Bundesliga this season, firmly establishing himself as one of the top performers for the Bavarians. Despite his impressive displays, Musiala downplays the attention, preferring instead to focus on his development. "The focus is to get better and keep putting in the work and not look around too much. For me it is important to take steps forward," he said during a press conference ahead of Germany's Nations League matches against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Hungary.
The midfielder explained that he does not allow himself to be swayed by external opinions, whether positive or negative. "Over the years I have been looking less and less at all that. I also do not do it when things are not going well," he added. Musiala’s dedication to his craft extends beyond just technical skills—he is committed to maintaining his fitness, working on his strength, and minimizing injuries to ensure he can play consistently throughout the season. "I work on power, to be fit game after game. I want to have as few injuries as possible to make as many matches as possible," he stated.
Musiala’s performances have played a key role in Bayern Munich’s resurgence at the top of the Bundesliga after a challenging season last year, and Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann is hopeful that Musiala’s form will translate to the national team. Germany has already secured qualification for the Nations League quarterfinals and is aiming to top Group A3 with two remaining matches in November.
Looking ahead, Musiala is focused on the future, specifically the 2026 World Cup. After disappointing exits in both the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Euros, where Germany failed to reach the semifinals in either tournament, Musiala believes there is still potential for growth. "The Euro was not perfect as we all had wanted but we still see the possibilities that are there," he reflected. With a year and a half to go before the next World Cup, Musiala and his teammates have ample time to learn from their previous setbacks and build towards a successful campaign in 2026.
Musiala’s mentality shows maturity beyond his years, as he prioritizes hard work and self-improvement over external praise, ensuring that he stays grounded while aiming for greatness on the global stage.
