Do what makes you happy?
That is not biblical.
The Christian is to do what the spirit of God directs them to do whether it makes them happy or not. This is not sound and biblical. As humans with very different makeups and personalities, background etc, what makes us happy differs.
Let’s consider a story in the Bible where “happiness” made a king make an oath which eventually requested the head of a man of God. Matt.14.6 -11
On Herod's birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for them and pleased Herod so much . And so he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. And she, being put forward and prompted by her mother, said, Give me the head of John the Baptist right here on a platter. And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.He sent and had John beheaded in the prison. And his head was brought in on a platter and given to the little maid, and she brought it to her mother.
Notice that in the story, happiness or excitement pushed the King to make an oath, “a must fulfill promise”.The happiness of a mother was the head of a man who had offended her and the mind of a daughter was blurred to know that a man’s head is no reward due to happiness. She could not reason that a human being’s head is not an asset.
Imagine if all of us did what made us happy? Many people would not be alive. Someone’s happiness lies in the death of another human.
“Oh but, it doesn’t have to cause harm to anyone “How can you tell? Who even dictates what is “harmful and what is not?”Who judges that something is good or bad?. Do you know what makes me happy? No!. Likewise, I don’t know what makes you happy.
The Christian should be led by the Holy Spirit not merely their feelings. The Bible does not teach us to be led by happiness but by the Spirit of God.
