The Ghana Black Stars are gearing up for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification matches with a sense of urgency. The team opened their camp on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium, where they held their first training session with just eight players in attendance. By Tuesday, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed that 14 players had joined the camp, leaving only Ebenezer Annan as the last player to arrive. The team wrapped up their training session on Tuesday evening, and they are now set to depart for Luanda, Angola, to face the Palancas Negras in a key qualifier match.
Despite the growing anticipation around the camp, the Black Stars have faced some challenges. Coach Otto Addo had to make the difficult decision to leave key player Thomas Partey out of the squad, while others such as Inaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo, and Joseph Paintsil have pulled out for various reasons.
The loss of such key players has left fans anxious, but the team is determined to perform against a strong Angola side. The Palancas Negras have already secured their place in the 2025 tournament in Morocco, making them a tough opponent for the Black Stars.
Ghana is currently sitting in third place in Group F with only two points from their first four matches. The team is facing an uphill battle, trailing behind both Angola and Sudan. To stand any chance of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON, the Black Stars must secure wins in both their remaining qualifiers, starting with the match against Angola on Thursday. Additionally, they will need Sudan to lose their upcoming games against Niger and Angola.
The Black Stars will return home after the Angola match to face Niger on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium. Fans are hoping the team can overcome the odds and earn their spot in the next AFCON tournament
