ELECTION 2024: NDC TARGETS 32% OF VOTES IN ASHANTI REGION

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set a bold target of securing 32% of the vote share in the Ashanti Region for the 2024 general elections. This ambitious goal is part of the party’s strategy to broaden its support base and challenge the dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which has historically been strong in the region.

Ashanti is a key political battleground in Ghana, often considered the heartland of the NPP. The region has consistently delivered a high number of votes for the party, making it crucial in any presidential race. However, the NDC, under the leadership of its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, is determined to make inroads into this stronghold by focusing on issues that resonate with the people of Ashanti.

One of the main strategies highlighted by the NDC is improving the region’s infrastructure, particularly roads and educational facilities, which they believe are crucial for the economic development of Ashanti. In addition, the NDC is promising better healthcare services, which it argues will help lift the region’s population out of poverty and into greater prosperity.

The NDC also plans to strengthen its grassroots presence through community engagement and active participation in local governance. The party believes that connecting with voters at the local level will help them address concerns directly and build trust with constituents who may have previously been loyal to the NPP.

While the 32% target is ambitious, it reflects the NDC’s recognition that Ashanti's political landscape is changing. The party has been gaining momentum in recent years, particularly in urban areas where young people are more open to alternative political ideas. Additionally, the NDC believes that dissatisfaction with the current government’s handling of key issues, such as the economy and unemployment, will translate into votes for them.

The Ashanti Region will undoubtedly remain a critical area of focus for both the NPP and NDC as Election 2024 approaches. For the NDC, meeting their target of 32% could significantly boost their chances of securing the presidency. With the election now just months away, both parties are likely to intensify their campaigning in this pivotal region.
