Manso Urges Addo to Drop Uncommitted Players for 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Bibiani GoldStars' head coach, Frimpong Manso, has called on Black Stars coach Otto Addo to reconsider his player selection ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. His comments follow Ghana's disappointing campaign in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where the team has managed only two points in four matches. This underperformance has left their chances of making it to the AFCON in Morocco uncertain. Manso believes that the team needs a change in attitude and commitment, urging the coaching staff to drop any players who seem indifferent or uncommitted to the national cause.

Manso expressed his frustration with the team's recent displays, particularly their habit of chasing victories in the final moments of matches. He pointed out that while some players show dedication, others appear lackluster, negatively impacting the team's overall performance. Manso's main concern is that this inconsistency could carry over to the World Cup qualifiers if changes aren't made. He emphasized the importance of having a fully committed squad, especially as the team faces a crucial challenge in the upcoming qualifiers starting in March 2025.

Additionally, Manso criticized certain players for seemingly prioritizing their club duties over national responsibilities. He suggested that this attitude has been detrimental to Ghana's recent performances, stressing that players who lack commitment should not be part of the squad moving forward. The Black Stars, currently second in Group I, have vital matches against Chad and Madagascar early next year, and Manso believes that only those fully dedicated to the team's success should be included. The team will also face Niger in their final AFCON qualifying match at the Accra Sports Stadium, hoping to end the campaign on a positive note.
