Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Announces E-GATE System Implementation at Kotoka International Airport
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced that by the end of this year, Ghana will commence the implementation of the E-GATE system at Kotoka International Airport. This innovative system is designed to streamline the entry process for travelers arriving in Ghana, allowing for a more efficient and user-friendly experience without the need for direct interaction with immigration officers.
Speaking to a gathering of chiefs, Muslim clerics, and other religious leaders in Twedie, located in the Atwima Kwanwoma constituency of the Ashanti Region on November 14, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the significant advantages of the E-GATE system. He explained that travelers who possess a Ghana Card will be able to pass through immigration seamlessly. “When you have a Ghana Card and you arrive in the country, you won’t need to go through immigration checks in the traditional sense,” he stated. “You will simply insert your Ghana Card, and if your identity is verified, you will be granted access. We are moving forward with this initiative very soon, certainly before the year concludes. The Ghana Card is truly facilitating this process,” he added.
Digital Innovations in Ghana
Dr. Bawumia’s remarks underscore a broader vision of digitization within Ghana. He emphasized that prior to the current administration, many households lacked an effective addressing system, which posed significant challenges for governance and service delivery. “When we assumed office, I recognized the need for a modern address system. I proposed that we introduce a new digital addressing system to facilitate our operations,” he shared. Despite initial skepticism from some quarters about the feasibility of such a project, Dr. Bawumia remained steadfast in his belief that it could be accomplished. “By the grace of God, I maintained that it was possible, and we have successfully implemented a digital property addressing system in Ghana. We are proud to be the first country to achieve this milestone,” he noted.
