Business mogul and one-time presidential candidate, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has made a strong call for Ghanaians to vote for a political party that will ensure the growth and development of indigenous businesses. He said the success of local enterprises was the only way to build a sustainable economy and empower the people.

Dr. Nduom, long the champion of entrepreneurship and self-reliance, underlined a raft of difficulties that indigenous businesses faced in the country: from limited access to funding and lack of infrastructure to regulatory barriers. He suggested that political leadership must be underpinned by policies protecting and nurturing homegrown industries for them to stand their ground in a competitive world market.

What we need is a government that will understand the challenge that indigenous businesses face and will be willing to create conditions necessary for a level playing field," he said in an interview recently. "Supporting local businesses is not just about creating jobs; it's about fostering a culture of innovation and ensuring that Ghana's resources benefit Ghanaians first.

His appeal came at a time when most SMEs in Ghana have begun to see some life again, after the COVID-19 pandemic devastated their businesses. He said indigenous businesses can spur economic development, but that would only be possible when such businesses were given the needed support by government institutions, banks, and other developmental organizations.

The onetime presidential aspirant emphasized the need to ensure better access to affordable credit facilities, government-backed incentives, and access to the market for the locals. He added that there is a need for reforms in taxation and regulatory frameworks to make the space less constrictive for small businesses to operate.

As the country heats up for the upcoming general elections, Nduom's words struck a chord in the hearts of many entrepreneurs who have longed to have changed and policies that support their cause. "We want policies that talk to us, the local businesses that form the backbone of this economy," said Nana, a local business owner.

According to Nduom, Ghana's economy will take the right course when indigenous businesses are empowered to realize their fullest potential. Voting for a party that understands this-and supports this vision-only benefits the nation as a whole.
