With Ghana’s December elections fast approaching, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has reiterated the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to ensuring a smooth and peaceful electoral process. Speaking during the commissioning of three new police stations in the Eastern Region, the IGP assured citizens of heightened security measures to maintain law and order during the elections.

Strengthening Security Infrastructure

The new police stations, located in Abekoase, Mouso, and Moseaso, mark a significant step toward bolstering security in the region. Dr. Dampare emphasized that these facilities would enhance the capacity of the police force to respond to potential threats and ensure public safety. "The elections ahead of us will be peaceful," he stated, expressing confidence in the police service's preparedness.

Warning Against Electoral Disruptions

Dr. Dampare issued a stern warning to individuals or groups intending to incite violence or disrupt the electoral process. He cautioned, "Do not be misled into unlawful acts that could lead to violence. Those who incite or assist such actions will abandon you when consequences arise. We will use the law to address such conduct decisively."

The IGP’s message serves as a reminder to all stakeholders, including political actors and the electorate, of the importance of upholding peace during the elections. He called for vigilance and lawful behavior to ensure the elections reflect the nation’s democratic values.

Public Expectations and Security Assurance

As tensions rise in anticipation of the polls, the public is looking to the security services to deliver on their mandate of safeguarding the process. The IGP’s assurances come at a crucial time when concerns over potential disruptions are high. His emphasis on lawful behavior and readiness to act against violators highlights the proactive approach of the Ghana Police Service.

Fostering Peaceful Participation

In addition to warnings, the IGP urged citizens to participate peacefully in the democratic process. The success of the elections, he noted, hinges on the collective effort of all parties to prioritize the nation’s stability over personal or political interests.

Conclusion

The Ghana Police Service, under the leadership of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining peace and order during the December elections. Through enhanced security infrastructure and a firm stance against unlawful acts, the IGP’s message is clear: the law will prevail, and peace will be upheld.
