The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), has announced that it is to reprint all ballot papers for some two regions due to some incorrect serial numbers numbers detected.
According to the Commission, it is taking swift action to address a critical issue that's arisen with the ballot papers for the Volta and Ahafo regions. the EC has decided to reprint all ballot papers for these regions, as announced by Deputy Chairman of Operations Samuel Tettey during an emergency IPAC meeting yesterday November 15.
This move according to the EC, is to ensures the integrity and accuracy of the electoral process, especially since the serialization of ballots is a crucial aspect of maintaining fairness and transparency. While the printing process has generally gone smoothly, the EC is being proactive in addressing these concerns to prevent any potential issues on election day.
Mr. Samuel Tettey during the meeting with its stakeholders revealed that, “the challenge faced by the Commission has been with the serialization of the numbers on the ballot papers. We wish to inform you that we will share the printing timetable with you by the close of today".
He explained that the Commission has taken serious steps to address the issue and has deployed teams to the printing house to rectify the anomalies; prompting the Commission to decide to reprint the papers for the Ahafo and Volta regions.
Mr Tettey added further that, the EC has resolved to both the presidential and parliamentary ballot papers for the two regions printed by Buck Press and Acts Commercial; and that plans for the disposal of the defective ballots will also be shared with stakeholders and political parties, noting that a certificate of destruction will be signed by all parties present during the process, with copies provided to each party.
