Meet Ave Kludze Jr: The Ghanaian-American Aerospace Engineer Taking NASA to New Heights

Ave Kludze Jr, a Ghanaian-American aerospace engineer, is making waves in the space industry with his remarkable achievements at NASA. As a senior spacecraft systems engineer, Kludze has flown several NASA spacecraft, including the Calipso satellite, from the ground using robotic controls at the NASA control center ¹ ².

Born in Hohoe, Ghana, Kludze's fascination with science and technology began at an early age. He would often dismantle radios and televisions to understand how they worked ¹ ². After completing his secondary education at Adisadel College in Cape Coast, Ghana, Kludze moved to the United States to pursue higher education. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University, a Master's degree in Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from George Washington University ¹ ³.

Kludze's work at NASA has been instrumental in advancing space exploration. He designed the Human Locator System (HuLos), which uses nanotechnology and satellite communication to locate humans anywhere on the planet ¹. Kludze also developed the Extravehicular Activity Infrared (EVA IR) camera, which detects cracks and surface defects in the Space Shuttle's Thermal Protection System ¹.

Kludze is passionate about promoting science education in Africa. He believes that African schools should focus more on practical problem-solving rather than just theoretical knowledge ². Kludze's own education in Ghana served him well, but he recognizes the need for more resources and investment in technology to nurture young scientific talent ².

Kludze's outstanding contributions to aerospace engineering have earned him several awards, including the Excellence Award for Exemplary Achievement in Science and Technology from Adisadel College ³. He is also a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the NASA Speakers Bureau ³.

Ave Kludze Jr's remarkable journey from Ghana to NASA is an inspiration to aspiring scientists and engineers worldwide. His groundbreaking work in aerospace engineering and commitment to promoting science education in Africa make him a true trailblazer in his field. As NASA continues to push the boundaries of space exploration, Kludze's expertise and passion will undoubtedly play a vital role in shaping the future of space travel.
