The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has extended heartfelt commendations to Simon Osei Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, for his outstanding dedication to the development of the Ashanti Region. In a recent session of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs, the revered king acknowledged the minister’s remarkable contributions to improving the region’s infrastructure and uplifting its image since his appointment.

Otumfuo praised Osei Mensah’s humility, respect for tradition, and consistent engagement with traditional leaders. According to reports by Citi FM, Otumfuo expressed his admiration for the minister's work ethic and urged him to sustain his efforts until the end of his tenure. He also hinted at plans by the chiefs to honor the minister for his commitment and achievements.

Simon Osei Mensah, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has served as the Ashanti Regional Minister since his appointment by President Nana Akufo-Addo in 2017. His reappointment in 2021 marked him as the first minister in the region to serve two consecutive terms in recent history.

### Achievements Highlighted at Chiefs’ Meeting

During his address to the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs, Simon Osei Mensah outlined some of his key accomplishments over the past years. He disclosed the initiation of 1,178 educational projects across the region, with over 900 already completed. This includes the construction and renovation of schools to enhance access to quality education for children in the region.

He also highlighted efforts to strengthen the region’s security infrastructure, mentioning the construction of 74 security service stations and 28 court buildings. Out of these, 21 court buildings have been completed and are operational. These projects, according to Osei Mensah, are part of a broader strategy to improve law enforcement and justice delivery systems in the Ashanti Region.

The minister's ability to execute numerous projects while maintaining strong ties with traditional leaders and other stakeholders has earned him widespread admiration. His leadership has been characterized by a focus on collaboration, ensuring that development initiatives align with the needs and aspirations of the local communities.

The Asantehene’s endorsement of Simon Osei Mensah’s work is a significant gesture, given the deep respect and influence the Asantehene holds in Ghanaian society. Otumfuo emphasized the importance of respecting traditional institutions and fostering cooperation between government officials and local chiefs.

He acknowledged the minister’s consistent visits and consultations with the chiefs as a demonstration of his respect for the region’s traditional authority. Otumfuo urged Osei Mensah to maintain his momentum and commitment to serving the people of the Ashanti Region, assuring him of the chiefs’ unwavering support.

Simon Osei Mensah’s career in public service has been marked by a steady rise through the ranks. Before his appointment as regional minister, he served as a Member of Parliament for the Bosomtwe constituency. He first won the seat in the 2004 General Election and went on to secure reelection for two more terms, serving in the fourth, fifth, and sixth parliaments of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

As an MP, Osei Mensah demonstrated a strong commitment to his constituency, advocating for development projects and policies that benefitted his constituents. His transition from parliamentary duties to regional leadership has allowed him to apply his extensive experience to a broader platform, focusing on the development of the Ashanti Region as a whole.

The projects spearheaded by Simon Osei Mensah have had a significant impact on communities across the Ashanti Region. Improved educational facilities have enhanced learning conditions for students, while new security installations have bolstered safety and law enforcement capabilities. The development of court buildings has also streamlined access to justice, reducing delays in legal proceedings.

Looking ahead, Osei Mensah is expected to continue his development agenda while fostering unity and collaboration among the region’s stakeholders. His ability to maintain harmony between the government and traditional authorities is seen as a key factor in sustaining peace and progress in the region.

As Otumfuo hinted during the meeting, plans are underway to formally recognize Simon Osei Mensah for his exceptional service. Such recognition would not only honor the minister’s achievements but also serve as an encouragement for other leaders to emulate his dedication and humility in public service.

Simon Osei Mensah’s tenure as Ashanti Regional Minister has set a high standard for regional leadership in Ghana. His achievements stand as a testament to what can be accomplished through vision, hard work, and collaboration. As his term continues, the people of the Ashanti Region, along with their traditional leaders, remain hopeful for even greater strides in development.
