On Thursday, November 21, 2024, the Ghanaian government will commission over 80 educational projects across all 16 regions, demonstrating its commitment to improving access to quality education.
A statement from the Ministry of Education revealed that the nationwide commissioning will be spearheaded by President Nana Akufo-Addo, with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum joining the ceremonies. Events will take place simultaneously across districts and regions, with live broadcasts on major television networks and social media platforms to ensure public engagement.
The projects span various levels of education, including basic schools, senior high schools (SHS), and technical institutions, with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. Notable developments include the Kpasenkpe Model STEM SHS in West Mamprusi, the Accra STEM Academy in La-Nkwantanang-Madina, and the Awaso Model STEM SHS in Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai.
Basic education is also prioritized, with facilities such as a 12-unit classroom block at Salem D/A Basic in Atwima Mponua and two-unit kindergarten blocks in communities like Fremasi DA Primary in Assin South. These projects aim to provide a conducive learning environment for young learners and support early childhood education.
The Ashanti Region will receive several key projects, including the Bosomtwe Model STEM JHS, featuring an 11-unit classroom block, and an upgraded six-unit classroom block at Wesley Girls Demonstration School in Kumasi Metro. Similarly, in the Northern Region, the Sagnarigu Tamale Business School will unveil an 18-unit classroom block to accommodate growing student numbers.
Other regions will benefit as well. The Volta Region's Kodzobi Ando Basic School in Adaklu will introduce a six-unit classroom block equipped with modern sanitation facilities. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiatives are also part of the plan, with institutions like the Anyinam TVET-Applied Technical and Fashion School and the Akomadan TVET-Applied Technical School set to enhance practical job market skills.
“This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to equitable education and the provision of modern infrastructure for Ghanaian students,” the Ministry of Education stated.
The ministry invited the public to participate in this milestone event, either in person or through live broadcasts, highlighting it as a celebration of progress in the education sector.
As the country moves forward, these projects are expected to significantly boost access to quality education, equip students with relevant skills, and contribute to national development.
