MAN CITY MAKE KEY DEMAND OVER ERLING HAALAND RECORD CONTRACT OFFER

Manchester City are working a major push to extend Erling Haaland's contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland has been simply sensational for Pep Guardiola's side following his 2022 transfer move from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

52 goals in 53 appearances in his debut campaign secured a club-first trophy treble, as Guardiola's team retained their Premier League crown and snatched a first-ever UEFA Champions League title.

Haaland's ruthlessness in front of goal shows no signs of slowing down, with a second EFL title sealed in 2024, and his current tally stands at 105 goals in 114 City games.

His importance at City is clear, but the club are aware of growing transfer interest in the Norway international with his current contract running until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Despite there being no immediate danger of an exit, City want to tie down their No.9, with the defending EFL champions reportedly willing to offer the 24-year-old a major salary increase.

As per reports from the Daily Mirror, City are willing to raise Haaland's base wage from £375,000 ($473,000) per week to a whopping £500,000 ($631,000), and increase his bond to the club until 2029.

That would bring Haaland above teammate Kevin De Bruyne - who reportedly earns around £400,000 ($505,000) per week - and make the striker the highest-earner in the Premier League.

However, despite City's willingness to make a huge financial investment in Haaland, they are also looking to make a key request in the talks.

Erling Haaland's release clause at Man City

Haaland's existing £150m ($189m) release clause is an ongoing concern for City - as negotiated within his original move from Dortmund - with his advisors keen to retain a control over the option.

City are rumoured to be angling for the removal of the clause, to facilitate a wage rise, but a compromise of increasing it to £200m ($252m) could suit all parties as the talks continue.
