In less than twenty days to go until the December 7, 2024 general elections, the Akufo-Addo led Bawumia's administration has been confronted with yet another hurdle; leaving the government in a "crossroad".

The Government has been facing many significant challenges in recent times; including economic struggles, high cost of living; and criticism from various sectors; leading to demonstrations, strikes etc. The Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC), is the latest to send a signal of an upcoming strike.

TEWU-TUC is expected to begin their nationwide strike today, Monday, November 18, due to the government’s failure to address longstanding concerns regarding their conditions of service.

The union has expressed deep frustration over the government's delays in concluding, signing, and implementing revised conditions of service for workers under the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ghana Library Authority, the Museums and Monuments Board, as well as Public Technical and Traditional Universities.Tourism packages.

TEWU claims that years of stalled negotiations have left its members frustrated and dissatisfied, despite ongoing reviews of their service conditions.

However, the National Labour Commission (NLC) has, summoned the Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress, along with relevant stakeholders, to a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

The Akufo-Addo Bawumia led government has been facing several challenges especially in their second term of office.

These challenges includes economic hardship (high inflation rates), which has been attributed to mismanagement of public funds; financial crises leading to economic hardship for many Ghanaians, corruption allegations, lack of transparency and accountability etc.

Lately, the government is again faced with another public uproar over President Akufo-Addo's decision to erect a statue in his own honor, with some questioning the priorities of the administration.

Civil society organizations (CSO), have also criticized the government for various reasons, including its bad handling of the economy.
