The Black Stars of Ghana have gone on the most disappointing run in an Afcon qualifier after losing to Angola at home and also to Niger who just scored Ghana 2-1 at the Accra sports stadium. Let us delve in the details.
The game started with some few debutants like Issac Afful, Francis Abu, Nathaniel Adjei and Terry Yegbe who all made their first start for the Black Stars of Ghana especially Issac Afful and Nathaniel Adjei who where playing their first ever games, the team was captained by Mohammad Kudus who was leading the stars forntue third time in his national football career. The nation also did not really turn up for the game for obvious reasons, especially because there was nothing to play for, no Afcon for the first time in twenty good years.
When the match started it was too soon in the game, as early as the 12th minute Niger took the lead against Ghana. This brought some sort of pressure on the team, but they kept on pushing against a team that had formed a low block system to contain the Ghanaians from playing a normal game. The first half ended in a defeat as the stars trialed
In the second half the coach made lots of changes but the most important and monumental of them was when Ransford Koningsdorffer was substituted for the young Jerry Afriyie who joined the camp only in the weekend and made an impact in than 15 minutes when he was subbed in, on the 67th minute he got the equaliser on his debut. The Thought Football Club player really lit up the game but it really did not add enough because there was nothing to fight for.
The Nigerians came back to lead in the 92nd minute and captain of the day Mohammad Kudus failed to convert an equalising penalty in the 96th minute.
Ghana ended the qualifiers with 3 points. 3 draws from 6 games and 3 losses.
