The Kwahu Traditional Council has destooled Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II, the Kwahumanhene, due to allegations of misconduct, particularly financial malpractices during his tenure as Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank’s board. The decision, confirmed by the Kwahumanhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah II, was taken after serious allegations of extortion were leveled against him, which led to his resignation from the bank. The Kwahumanhemaa emphasized that the chief’s actions had tarnished the reputation of the Kwahu community.
“We have destooled Eugene Kwasi Boadi Asante (Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II) for misconduct. The traditional council does not tolerate chiefs who do not uphold the truth in their rule,” Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah II stated. “His actions have caused reputational damage to Kwahuman, and he is no longer fit to serve as the Kwahumanhene.”
In response to questions about the authority to enstool or destool a chief, Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah II clarified that, according to Akan tradition, the Queen Mother, in consultation with the Kingmakers, enstools a new chief when one passes on. If the Queen Mother dies, the Chief and Kingmakers are responsible for selecting a new Queen Mother. This is the established tradition for leadership succession in the Kwahu area.
The Kwahumanhemaa also announced that the council is now focused on appointing a new Kwahumanhene. In the interim, Nana Asiedu Agyemang III, the Abetifihene, has assumed the role of acting president of the Kwahu Traditional Council. The council convened a meeting on November 13, 2024, where all twenty chiefs and queen mothers were present to deliberate on the decision. A consensus was reached, and rituals were performed to invoke the guidance of the gods as they begin the process of installing a new leader for Kwahuman.
The decision to destool Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II underscores the traditional council's commitment to ensuring that the Kwahu community is led by individuals who embody integrity and honor. As the community looks to the future, the selection of a new Kwahumanhene is expected to restore trust and stability to the traditional leadership structure.
