Alan Kojo Kyerematen. the Founder and flagbearer for the Movement for Change, has replied former President John Agyekum Kufuor, criticizing him over his recent endorsement of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Oyerepa TV on Monday, November 18, Mr. Kyeremanten expressed his disapproval on Former President Kufuor’s remarks; claiming that Kufour’s endorsement of Dr. Bawumia will compromises the impartiality expected from a statesman of his stature, and that, his actions could tarnish his long-standing political legacy.
Mr. Alan explained further; saying; “Kufuor is my uncle, and I hesitate to publicly criticize him,” Kyerematen said. “However, his endorsement has cast a significant shadow over his political career. Have you noticed how his comments have sparked negative reactions and criticism from the public?”
Mr. Kyerematen went on to express his concerns over the former president's involvement in active politics at this stage, warning that it could erode the respect he commands across the country.
He revealed that, president Kufour “…has long been a respected figure in Ghana, so why would he choose to involve himself in partisan politics in this manner? His actions are regrettable, and he is venturing into dangerous territory”.
Despite Alan Kojo Kyeremanten’s familial connection to the former president, he did not shy away from pointing out that his endorsement of Dr. Bawumia’s has already provoked a backlash. He therefore urged the former president to reconsider his stance.
Former President Kufour In an interview on Sunday, 17 November, called on Ghanaian voters to support the NPP’s Flagbearer Dr. Bawumia in the December elections, describing him as the most suitable candidate to lead the nation.
According to the former president, “Considering the present global context, I genuinely believe that Ghana’s economy would witness substantial growth.
Kufour added that, if Vice were elected as the next President, he is more than capable of fulfilling this promise; and that, he (Kufour) have observed Bawumia’s remarkable economic skills during his presidency, when he (Bawumia) was an essential part of the Bank of Ghana’s team under Governor D.r Paul Acquah,, helping to stabilize the national currency.
