Stephen Atubiga, a former senior member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made a passionate call to students at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), urging them to rally behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), in the upcoming December 2024 elections.

Atubiga, who recently crossed political lines to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP), shared his perspective during a Campus Connect event, where he endorsed the Bawumia-NAPO ticket as the ideal leadership team for Ghana’s future.

Reflecting on his decision, Atubiga openly criticized former President John Dramani Mahama, particularly for what he described as a lack of impactful leadership during his tenure. He pointed to the hardships faced by the people of northern Ghana under Mahama’s administration and expressed his disappointment.

“As someone from the North, I had high hopes for Mahama’s presidency. Unfortunately, his tenure was marked by economic mismanagement, corruption, and failed policies that only deepened the struggles of Ghanaians,” Atubiga lamented. “We cannot afford to repeat that mistake by giving him another chance.”

Atubiga praised Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, particularly his work in digitalizing Ghana’s economy and laying a foundation for sustainable growth. He highlighted Bawumia’s innovative approach to governance and his commitment to tackling the nation’s challenges.

“Dr. Bawumia has shown that he is not just a leader but a visionary. He has introduced transformative policies that address the core needs of ordinary Ghanaians. His focus on technology, innovation, and economic stability makes him the right choice to lead Ghana into a new era of development,” Atubiga remarked.

Turning his attention to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, Atubiga commended his accomplishments as Ghana’s former Minister of Education. He cited the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy as a testament to NAPO’s commitment to youth empowerment and nation-building.

“NAPO is a proven achiever. His leadership in education has been nothing short of remarkable. He has expanded access to quality education and improved infrastructure, ensuring that Ghanaian youth are better prepared for future opportunities,” Atubiga stated.

According to Atubiga, the combination of Bawumia’s economic expertise and NAPO’s dedication to education creates a dynamic leadership duo capable of addressing Ghana’s pressing challenges. He described their partnership as the best option for sustainable growth and progress.

“The Bawumia-NAPO team brings a blend of competence and vision that Ghana desperately needs. Together, they are a formidable force for progress and development,” he added.

Atubiga also urged the students to become active participants in the democratic process by encouraging their peers and families to support the NPP.

“As young people, you have the power to shape the future of this nation. Sitting on the sidelines is not an option. Mobilize your communities and vote for Bawumia and NAPO to secure a brighter future for Ghana,” he advised.

He emphasized the importance of youth involvement in political discourse, calling on students to champion change and be the voice of progress.

“Ghana’s future depends on your choices. Choose leaders who have demonstrated their commitment to improving lives and delivering results. The Bawumia-NAPO ticket is that choice,” he concluded.

Atubiga’s endorsement reflects a growing narrative within Ghana’s political landscape, where Dr. Bawumia’s leadership is often celebrated for its emphasis on modernization and practical solutions.

As the December elections draw closer, the stakes remain high, with political campaigns intensifying across the country. Bawumia and NAPO’s leadership continues to gain attention as many Ghanaians assess their potential to address the nation’s challenges and secure a prosperous future.

For the students at UPSA and other young Ghanaians, Atubiga’s message serves as a reminder of their critical role in shaping the country’s destiny. The call to action highlights the power of informed voting and the significance of choosing leaders who prioritize innovation, education, and stability.

With Ghana at a crossroads, the Bawumia-NAPO ticket presents itself as a beacon of hope for those seeking transformative leadership. Whether this vision resonates with the majority of Ghanaians remains to be seen, but the call for progress and active participation in the electoral process grows louder with each passing day.
