With the 2024 general elections drawing closer, Nana Akomea, Vice Chairman of the Bawumia Campaign Team, has expressed strong confidence in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s chances of becoming Ghana’s next president. During an interview on *Face to Face* with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV, Akomea outlined why he believes the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer will clinch victory in the upcoming elections.
Although acknowledging that the final decision lies in the hands of Ghanaian voters, Akomea expressed optimism about the NPP’s electoral prospects. “I’m confident but it remains at that level of confidence. The NDC too, if someone were to speak for them, will also be confident. Fortunately for us, in another three weeks, the electorate will speak and everybody will see their confidence level,” he said.
Akomea’s confidence stems from the NPP’s focus on delivering a strong performance across all regions, particularly in Greater Accra, where the party is determined to win the majority of parliamentary seats. He emphasized that the campaign team has worked tirelessly to address concerns and present Dr. Bawumia as the best candidate to lead Ghana into the future.
Strength Amid Challenges
When asked about the potential impact of three Members of Parliament leaving the NPP to run as independent candidates, Akomea dismissed concerns about the party’s ability to maintain its majority in Parliament. “If we have a majority of 20, we’re going to get a comfortable majority. That is my confidence,” he assured.
Akomea highlighted that the NPP’s track record in governance, particularly its focus on economic recovery and infrastructure development, positions the party as the preferred choice for Ghanaians. He praised Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, stating that his deep understanding of economic issues and commitment to innovation make him the ideal candidate to address the country’s pressing challenges.
The Countdown to Decision Day
With just weeks left until Election Day, Akomea reiterated that the ultimate test lies with the electorate. He expressed optimism that Ghanaians would choose the NPP to continue its agenda of progress and transformation.
The confidence expressed by Akomea reflects the high stakes of the 2024 elections, with both the NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) vying for the mandate to govern. While the NPP touts its achievements under President Nana Akufo-Addo, the NDC has criticized the government for economic hardships and mismanagement.
As campaign activities intensify, all eyes are on the upcoming elections, which will determine the trajectory of Ghana’s leadership for the next four years. For Akomea and the NPP, the focus remains on securing victory for Dr. Bawumia and maintaining a parliamentary majority to continue the party’s vision for the nation.
