I could have made a lot of money from this alert if I was a corrupt politician – Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has disclosed that he could have profited significantly from the alert he received regarding 22,000 expired bags of rice.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stated that if he were a corrupt politician, he could have made a significant amount of money from the alerts he received. However, he has chosen not to compromise his integrity.
Speaking on the JOY NEWS AM Show, Ablakwa remarked, “I understand why those who consistently violate our laws and jeopardize our health feel emboldened. They get away with it, face no consequences, and can even choose to remain silent without repercussions. Meanwhile, those of us speaking out continue to bear the burden.”
“I could be in my constituency campaigning, but what people haven’t considered is how much I could profit if I were a corrupt politician. You know how lucrative some of these alerts can be. However, when they come to me, I choose to take the path of integrity and refuse to be compromised,” he boldly declared.
The Member of Parliament stated, “Consider all the individuals involved in this chain; there were many opportunities for someone to prevent this expired rice from reaching our schools. Yet, it still happened. If just one person had been willing to stand up, protect our children, and face the consequences, we wouldn’t be in this situation today.”
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has stated that the Buffet Stock Company is not the private enterprise of Abdul Wahab and Nana Boakye, who serves as the Board Chairman. He emphasized that, as individuals paid by taxpayers, they owe Ghanaians a duty of care and must explain why they colluded with Lamens to carry out this rebranding.
A Lesson for All Leaders
The revelation by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa serves as a reminder of the importance of integrity in public service. By refusing to exploit the situation for personal gain, he has set a standard for ethical leadership in Ghana.
As calls grow for greater accountability in governance, Ablakwa’s actions stand as a testament to the power of principled leadership in addressing corruption and protecting the public interest. His story is not just a victory for North Tongu but an inspiration for all who seek to uphold honesty in the face of temptation.
