NDC’s allegations designed to scare Ghanaians and justify the violence they are plotting – Ahiagbah
The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has responded sharply to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the opposition party of fabricating false allegations aimed at scaring the public and justifying potential violence in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections. Ahiagbah's comments came after the NDC claimed that the ruling party was planning to rig the upcoming elections and manipulate the electoral process to secure victory.
In a statement, Ahiagbah dismissed the NDC’s allegations as baseless and politically motivated. He argued that the NDC’s continuous narrative of alleged election rigging was a deliberate attempt to create fear and uncertainty among Ghanaians, especially as the country gears up for the highly anticipated polls. He accused the opposition of attempting to lay the groundwork for violence by portraying the election as a rigged process, which could trigger unrest and destabilize the nation.
“The NDC is using these false accusations to create unnecessary panic, hoping that Ghanaians will be intimidated and divided. Their aim is to justify the violence and chaos they plan to unleash in the election period,” Ahiagbah said. He further stated that the NPP remains committed to a peaceful and transparent election, adding that any attempt to disrupt the electoral process would be met with firm opposition.
Ahiagbah also called on the Electoral Commission (EC), security agencies, and all stakeholders to remain vigilant and ensure the integrity of the election. He reiterated the NPP's belief in the strength of Ghana's democratic institutions, emphasizing that the elections would be free, fair, and credible.
The NDC has yet to respond to Ahiagbah's accusations, but the growing political tension indicates that the 2024 elections are likely to be one of the most fiercely contested in the country’s history. The allegations and counterclaims have intensified discussions about the future of Ghana's democracy, with both parties positioning themselves for the upcoming battle at the polls.
