Bank of Ghana Inaugurates New $250 Million Headquarters
On November 20, 2024, the Bank of Ghana officially inaugurated its newly constructed $250 million headquarters, “The Bank Square,” in Accra. This state-of-the-art facility marks a significant milestone in the country’s financial sector, showcasing a blend of modern architecture and advanced infrastructure to support the bank’s growing operational demands.

Standing at 100 meters, the central bank's new edifice is not only the tallest building in Ghana but also the most sustainable EDGE Advanced structure of its size in the country and the sub-region.
The ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana. In his speech, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the symbolic importance of the project, stating, “This new headquarters is not just a building but a reflection of our commitment to strengthening Ghana’s financial institutions. It represents a step forward in creating a more resilient and efficient banking system for our country.”
Dr. Ernest Addison, the Bank’s Governor, addressed the concerns surrounding the project’s timing and cost, emphasizing its strategic necessity. He remarked, “This building is not an extravagance but an investment in Ghana’s financial future. It is designed to meet the evolving operational needs of the Bank and the challenges of a dynamic economic environment. The decision to complete this project was guided by long-term financial prudence.”
The governor also assured the public that the bank remains focused on stabilizing the economy despite the challenging global and local financial climate.
While the project faced public scrutiny due to its cost amidst recent economic challenges, officials explained that halting construction midway would have led to higher costs in the long run. They also emphasized that the new headquarters will improve operational efficiency, enhance financial oversight, and contribute to the broader vision of economic stability
The Bank Square stands as a symbol of progress and a testament to the government’s dedication to modernizing Ghana’s financial institutions.
