The National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to pursue government officials and individuals involved in the misappropriation of state funds due to corruption and poor management of Ghana’s economic resources if he is re-elected.

At a rally in Effiduase, part of his five-day campaign tour in the Eastern Region, Mr. Mahama stated that his administration would prioritize recovering all state funds that have been allegedly "stolen" by government appointees, ensuring that these resources are returned to the taxpayers.

He criticized the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for creating a challenging economic climate driven by their "selfish interests" rather than the welfare of the nation.

“I assure you that when we return to power, the NDC will seek out all those who have stolen public money and bring it back to the citizens,” Mr. Mahama declared.

He pointed out that Ghana has defaulted on its debt obligations for the first time, attributing this to the government’s excessive borrowing, corruption, and mismanagement of public funds, which he said has brought shame to the country and undermined investor confidence.

Mr. Mahama urged the youth to take the initiative in reversing what he termed a national disgrace by voting out the NPP in the upcoming December elections to pave the way for change.

During the third day of his Mahama4Change2024 tour in the Eastern Region, he engaged with local leaders at the Effiduase chief's palace and held a mini durbar at Kukurantumi, where he shared his vision for the nation with party supporters.

His campaign team also hosted a mini rally in Begoro and Fanteakwa North, followed by a community durbar at Osino in Fanteakwa South, where he stressed the importance of voting for change in the forthcoming election to set the country on a path toward progress.

Later, Mr. Mahama's team conducted community engagements in Kwabeng in the Atiwa West constituency and Anyinam in Atiwa East.
