The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced the appointment of Dr. Randy Abbey to the Black Stars Management Committee. This decision follows the national team's disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they finished last in Group F, securing just three points. The move comes as part of an effort to overhaul the team's management and performance following their early exit from the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, marking their second consecutive group-stage elimination from the prestigious tournament. The GFA is keen on addressing the issues surrounding the team’s lackluster performance and aims to strengthen its management structure going forward.

In an interview with Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director of the GFA, confirmed Dr. Abbey’s appointment. He explained that the inclusion of Dr. Abbey is part of the FA’s wider plan to review the team’s performance and restructure its management. Along with Dr. Abbey, other key figures like Mark Addo, who will continue as Chairman of the Management Committee, and Akwesi Agyeman will remain part of the committee. These changes are intended to foster better decision-making and ensure that the Black Stars are better equipped for future competitions.

Dr. Randy Abbey, a prominent member of the GFA Executive Council, brings considerable experience to the Black Stars’ management team. He also serves as the Chairman of the Management Committee for the Black Satellites, Ghana’s U-20 team. His appointment is expected to provide fresh insight into the Black Stars’ strategic planning, as the GFA works to address the team’s recent setbacks and put them on a path to success. The FA hopes that this restructuring will result in better performances in upcoming tournaments, including the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. With Dr. Abbey’s expertise, the Black Stars are poised for a renewed focus on development and performance improvement in the years to come.
