The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has called on political parties in Ghana to collaborate with the police to guarantee a peaceful and incident-free election process in 2024.
Speaking during a meeting with representatives of political parties in Accra on November 21, 2024, Dr. Dampare reassured stakeholders that the Ghana Police Service is fully prepared to maintain law and order before, during, and after the elections. However, he emphasized that the cooperation of all political actors is essential for the success of these efforts.
“As you prepare to celebrate your possible victory, you must also plan to endure a potential defeat,” the IGP advised. “Only one party will win, and it is vital for everyone to play their role to ensure Ghana emerges victorious as a nation.”
Dr. Dampare underscored the importance of responsible behavior and mutual respect among political parties to safeguard national unity. He stressed that the police are committed to their mandate and are ready to implement security measures effectively. Still, their success will depend on the collective support and adherence to the rules by all stakeholders.
In addition, Dr. Dampare noted that the police have put in place comprehensive plans to address any challenges that may arise during the electoral process. He urged political parties and their supporters to trust the institution’s commitment to impartiality and professionalism.
“We are ready for the elections, but we need your support to ensure our plan works for the sake of Ghana,” he added.
