Stonebwoy Boasts of Unique Achievement at the 2023 BHIM Concert
Ghanaian dancehall and reggae musician Stonebwoy has proudly touted his remarkable achievement of self-funding his 2023 BHIM concert, emphasizing his position as one of the top-tier artists in Ghana’s music industry. In an interview with 3Music TV on November 18, Stonebwoy reflected on the success of the concert, which saw the 40,000-capacity Accra Sports Stadium filled to the brim. He also revealed that over 55,000 attendees turned up for the self-funded BHIM Festival in December 2023, a feat he believes no other artist of his caliber has accomplished.
Stonebwoy stated that the entire event, from production to promotion, was financed entirely out of his own pocket, with no external sponsorship. He made it clear that his dedication and personal investment were key to the concert’s success. “The stadium was filled to capacity; the production was from my pocket, and I know the amount of dollars I spent to make that happen,” he said, emphasizing that such a major event was a personal achievement. According to him, no artist in his class, not even legends, has been able to pull off such an event without sponsorship.
The 2023 BHIM Festival showcased an impressive lineup of top Ghanaian and Caribbean musicians, and Stonebwoy highlighted how the concert’s scale and quality were a testament to his commitment to the industry. He noted that the event’s production did not feature any sponsors, underlining the magnitude of his personal sacrifice. “40,000 capacity was filled to 55,000 plus; the evidence is there. The staging, did you see any sponsor on that stage?” Stonebwoy asked passionately, drawing attention to the substantial effort he invested to make the concert a success.
Stonebwoy also voiced his frustration about what he perceives as a lack of recognition for his innovative contributions to the music industry. Despite his efforts to push the boundaries of what Ghanaian musicians can achieve, he feels that his accomplishments are often overlooked. “Some of us have to be speaking up, but we don’t like to,” he admitted, reflecting on how the industry can sometimes overlook the sacrifices made by artists like him.
The BHIM Festival, which took place on December 22, 2023, was a landmark event, with Stonebwoy and his Bhim Nation fans making history at the Accra Sports Stadium. The concert drew thousands of fans from across Ghana and beyond, celebrating music and culture on an epic scale. Stonebwoy’s success in self-funding the event serves as a testament to his dedication, proving that his influence and commitment to his craft are undeniable in the Ghanaian music scene.
