Soldiers Will Beat Anyone Who Misbehaves on Voting Day – Military Commander Warns

As Ghana prepares for the crucial 2024 general elections, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a stern warning to individuals planning to disrupt the voting process. The Military Commander in charge of election security has declared that soldiers will not hesitate to take disciplinary action, including physical measures, against anyone who attempts to cause chaos or undermine the integrity of the polls.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, the Commander emphasized the military’s commitment to safeguarding the democratic process. “We are here to ensure peace, law, and order throughout the election period. Let me make it clear: anyone who tries to misbehave, disrupt the voting process, or incite violence will face the full force of the law, and if necessary, will be dealt with physically,” he warned.
He added that soldiers deployed on Election Day will act within the confines of the law but will not tolerate any act of misconduct that threatens the stability of the nation. The Commander reiterated the need for all citizens to act responsibly and respect the rules governing the electoral process.
The Military Commander's statement comes amid growing concerns about potential election-related violence in some hotspots across the country. Reports from the National Election Security Task Force (NESTF) have highlighted several constituencies as areas of concern, with heightened political tensions leading up to the polls.
“Let this serve as a warning to anyone planning to engage in electoral malpractices. Soldiers have been trained to maintain order and ensure a peaceful process. We will not entertain any acts of hooliganism, intimidation, or violence,” the Commander asserted.
Political parties, civil society organizations, and election observers have been urged to play their roles responsibly to promote a peaceful election. The Military Commander also appealed to the media to avoid sensationalism and report accurately to prevent the spread of misinformation that could inflame tensions.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the public of its readiness to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections on December 7, 2024. In collaboration with the security agencies, the EC has put measures in place to ensure a smooth voting process nationwide.
The Ghana Armed Forces have called on all citizens to cooperate with security personnel and respect the sanctity of the election process. “We are not here to intimidate anyone but to protect lives and properties. Let us all play our part in ensuring peaceful elections,” the Commander concluded.
With Election Day fast approaching, Ghanaians are reminded that the success of the polls depends on collective effort and respect for democratic principles.
