The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to host a retreat on November 28 at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram.
This follows a meeting of the Executive Council on November 21, which addressed the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
For the first time in two decades, Ghana will not be competing in the AFCON, which is set to take place in Morocco next year.
The Black Stars, who last won the AFCON in 1982, finished last in Group F with just three points from six matches, recording three draws and three losses.
In a statement, the GFA expressed its awareness of the public’s concern, stating, “In response to the passion and concerns from members and stakeholders of Ghana Football, as well as the wider public, the GFA will hold a retreat inviting all relevant stakeholders.”
Invitations will be extended to groups such as the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), the media, the National Sports Authority, the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), former players and captains, coaches, supporters, and various sports-related professionals, including medics, economists, marketers, and opinion leaders like traditional rulers. Additionally, representatives from key government ministries and authorities, such as the Ministries of Sports, Finance, and Education, the Ghana Revenue Authority, and the Ghana Tourism Authority, will be present.
The retreat will aim to gather input from stakeholders to shape a strategic plan for improving the performance of the Black Stars and other national teams.
“The outcomes of this retreat will help inform the development of a roadmap to enhance the performance of our national teams,” the GFA statement added.
The GFA also confirmed the dissolution of the Black Stars Management Committee and announced a meeting with head coach Otto Addo the day before the retreat.
The GFA expressed appreciation for the support and patience of the Ghanaian people and pledged to work toward improvements in the future.
