Accompanied by a delegation from the Ministry of Health, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo presented a brand-new car to the 2024 Ghana Health Service (GHS) Outstanding Health Officer, Dr. Kwame Osei, in a special ceremony held on November 21, 2024.
The award has over the years gained reputation as a mark of excellence within the GHS and recognizes individuals who show exceptional commitment, professionalism, and productivity in the health sector. Dr Osei is a Senior Physician at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and was selected from nominees across the country for his relentless work in enhancing health delivery, especially in rural areas.
In a short but stirring ceremony at the Jubilee House, the President congratulated Dr. Osei for his dedication to exemplary service, adding that health professionals are very important in national development. He therefore acknowledged commitment to the cause of improving access to quality health particularly for the underserved populations in northern and central regions.
"The work of Dr. Osei is an inspiration to all healthcare workers in Ghana. His selflessness, dedication, and passion for service are qualities that we, as a nation, must continue to support and nurture," President Akufo-Addo said in his address.
The brand-new car presented to him as part of the recognition is expected to aid Dr. Osei in his continued work, especially in mobile health service provision in areas where access to healthcare is still a challenge. The vehicle will help Dr. Osei reach more patients to ensure that vital health services are not hampered.
Dr. Osei thanked them for the recognition and promised to keep serving his community with the same determination. He dedicated the award to all healthcare workers in the country who strive every day to make a difference in the lives of Ghanaian citizens.
In attendance were some key figures from the Ministry of Health, GHS, and other stakeholders in the health sector, all of whom hailed government commitments towards ensuring that commitment to recognizing and rewarding excellence in healthcare delivery was duly acknowledged.
