Netflix Debuts Grain Media's Explosive Film Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy


Netflix has announced the debut of Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy, a bold and eye-opening documentary from the Academy Award-winning Grain Media, premiered on November 20, 2024. Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Nic Stacey, the film exposes the covert tactics used by global brands to fuel consumerism, keeping individuals trapped in a cycle of relentless buying.

Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy offers unprecedented access to insiders and whistleblowers from major brands like Apple, Amazon, and Adidas. Through stunning revelations, the documentary unveils billion-dollar marketing machines, deceptive design strategies, and psychological tricks used to manipulate consumer behavior on a global scale.


Combining a playful, subversive style with cinematic CGI and advertising-inspired visuals, the film takes audiences on a wild journey through the polished façade of branding, exposing the wasteful and destructive systems that underpin the industry. Drawing inspiration from pop culture classics like They Live and The Truman Show, it critiques the darker side of consumer culture while empowering viewers with insights to resist its manipulative grip.

Chloe Leland, Emmy and BAFTA-winning Executive Producer at Grain Media, expressed pride in the project. “Rather than blaming or guilt-tripping consumers, this film shifts the focus onto the brands perpetuating these systems. Grain Media, a UK-based production house with a legacy of socially conscious programming, has earned over 150 awards, including two Oscars and multiple Emmys. Their credits include Virunga, The White Helmets, and Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (if you’re a girl). With Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy, they continues their tradition of purpose-driven storytelling.
