Nyaaba-Aweeba Azongo, the running mate to independent presidential candidate George Twum-Barimah-Adu, has outlined a bold plan to revolutionize governance in Ghana. Speaking on Maakye with Captain Smart on Onua TV, Azongo shared a vision for a non-partisan, people-focused administration aimed at fostering nationwide prosperity and unity.
The Twum-Barimah-Adu-Azongo administration promises to implement a “Development Consensus,” a governance approach prioritizing inclusivity and collective decision-making. Azongo emphasized that the strategy aims to transcend political, religious, and ethnic divisions, allowing all Ghanaians to contribute to national development.
“Our vision is to remove partisan barriers from socio-economic policies,” Azongo explained. “We will engage all stakeholders in a cooperative effort to achieve a shared vision for Ghana’s development.”
This model will integrate citizens, policymakers, and various groups into the governance process, focusing on shared responsibility and collective prosperity.
A cornerstone of their agenda is the proposed replacement of the controversial E-Levy with E-Sika. Unlike the E-Levy, which deducts funds from electronic transactions for government use, E-Sika channels deductions directly into individuals’ accounts, divided into three segments: welfare, housing, and pensions.
“E-Sika means saving for your welfare, housing, and pension each time you spend,” Azongo explained. “This aligns with our agenda of ‘Common Prosperity for All.’”
Under this model, every Ghanaian would benefit directly from their contributions, ensuring financial security and long-term benefits while addressing basic human needs such as housing and welfare.
The Twum-Barimah-Adu-Azongo ticket seeks to end Ghana's decades-long political dominance by the NDC and NPP. Azongo criticized the partisan nature of governance, arguing that it has fostered divisive leadership.
“Ghana needs a president who serves as Head of State, not the head of a political party,” Azongo asserted. He expressed optimism that their team would introduce a new governance paradigm, rooted in the Directive Principles of State Policy outlined in the 1992 Constitution.
With Ghana’s general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024, the Twum-Barimah-Adu-Azongo campaign presents itself as a transformative choice for voters. Their promise of non-partisan leadership and innovative policies like E-Sika offers a fresh perspective on tackling Ghana’s socio-economic challenges.
By prioritizing citizen engagement and shared development, the team aims to inspire a new era of governance that is “for the people and with the people.”
