Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya was the winner of the Premier League Golden Glove award for 2023/24.

The Spaniard finished with 16 clean sheets, underlining the Gunners' defensive strength throughout a campaign in which they finished just short in a title race eventually won by Manchester City.

At the start of the season, Raya was thought likely be the man to beat again in 2024/25, with his main contenders expected to come in the form of Man City's Ederson and Liverpool No. 1 Alisson. However, Arsenal's early struggles opened the door for other more surprising challengers such as Andre Onana of Man United and Matz Sels of Nottingham Forest.

Everton's Jordan Pickford was runner-up in last season's Golden Glove race, but the Toffees have to sharpen up defensively if they are to give the England international a chance.

What is the Premier League Golden Glove award?

The Golden Glove is awarded to the goalkeeper who keeps the most clean sheets in a single Premier League season. A 'clean sheet' refers to a full game in which a team does not concede a goal.

If more than one keeper has managed the same number of shutouts in a single season, the Golden Glove prize is shared. That happened in 2021/22 when Manchester City's Ederson and Liverpool's Alisson each kept 20 clean sheets for their respective sides.

The award has been given out every season since the 2004/05 campaign. Petr Cech of Chelsea was the first winner, managing 24 clean sheets in that campaign for Chelsea — a figure that is still the single-season record in the competition.

Last season, David Raya won the award after managing 16 shut-outs for Arsenal, who finished second in the standings behind champions Manchester City.
