The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has advised customers using Nuri Prepaid Meters to load enough credit to last at least one month to avoid disruptions during an upcoming system upgrade. This critical update, scheduled to enhance the Standard Transfer Specification (STS) vending systems, aims to improve efficiency and ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

In an announcement made on November 23, 2024, ECG emphasized the importance of the exercise, describing it as a mandatory upgrade to modernize its infrastructure and improve compatibility with updated vending protocols. The company reassured customers that the upgrade would help streamline electricity payment processes while reducing potential disruptions.

“This is a crucially mandatory STS upgrade designed to ensure uninterrupted vending service,” ECG stated, urging customers to act proactively to prevent inconveniences.

To assist with the process, ECG has made its support systems readily available. Customers requiring help to upgrade their meters or complete top-ups can contact the ECG call center at 0302 611611 or reach out through the company's social media platforms under the handle @ECGghOfficial.

The upgrade reflects ECG’s broader strategy to modernize its infrastructure and enhance service delivery. By aligning the Nuri Prepayment Meters with the latest STS vending protocols, the initiative seeks to optimize customer experience and improve operational efficiency. ECG noted that while disruptions are possible during the transition, compliance with its advisory will significantly mitigate these risks.

The company has called on customers to cooperate fully by ensuring their meters are sufficiently topped up ahead of the exercise. The advisory applies not only to Nuri Prepaid Meter users but also to those using other systems that will be affected by the upgrade.

With its focus on long-term benefits, the exercise highlights ECG’s commitment to creating a more reliable and customer-friendly electricity distribution network. However, the success of the upgrade will depend largely on customer participation. ECG encouraged all users to act promptly, noting that proper planning will prevent interruptions to electricity supply during the transition period.

This proactive measure is part of ECG’s ongoing efforts to improve service delivery in line with technological advancements and customer needs. By urging customers to prepare ahead of the upgrade, ECG is taking a collaborative approach to ensure the smooth execution of its modernization initiatives.

The Electricity Company of Ghana remains committed to delivering uninterrupted service and improving the reliability of its systems as part of its mandate to support the country’s energy needs.
