The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has called for stronger stakeholder collaboration to unlock the potential of Ghana’s green economy and drive sustainable development. This appeal was highlighted during a forum to launch the EU-Ghana Pact for Skills and Jobs initiative, a program aimed at advancing green and digital sectors in the country. The report was featured by Citi Newsroom.

A green economy focuses on reducing environmental risks, conserving resources, and fostering sustainable development. The Ministry emphasized the vast opportunities for job creation in the green economy, particularly through the implementation of effective policies and targeted skills development initiatives.

At the event, Kizito Ballans, the Chief Director of the Ministry, outlined the objectives of the Integrated Action on Green Jobs and Skills project. This initiative is designed to expand employment opportunities while emphasizing the integration of green technology and innovation.

“We can only harness the full potential of a green and circular economy by developing the necessary skills along the value chain,” said Ballans. “This initiative prioritizes green jobs and skills development, recognizing that without these skills, we cannot fully capitalize on opportunities in green technology and innovation.”

He also praised the collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the European Union (EU), which aims to boost decent employment across digital and green industries in Ghana.

The Ministry plans to strengthen its coordination efforts to align green job initiatives with enterprise development strategies. This will ensure that priority sectors with significant job-generation potential receive the necessary policy and technical support.

The forum underscored the importance of partnerships in achieving sustainable development goals and creating resilient economic systems. Through projects like the EU-Ghana Pact and the Integrated Action on Green Jobs and Skills, the Ministry aims to ensure that Ghana is well-positioned to benefit from global shifts toward green economies.

This initiative not only addresses environmental concerns but also seeks to build a future where economic growth is inclusive, sustainable, and driven by innovation.
