‘If Mills’ Ghost Exists You Would Be in Jail By Now’ - NAPO to Mahama
Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh, widely known as NAPO, has launched a scathing attack on former President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of corruption and suggesting that if the “ghost of former President John Atta Mills” were to exist, Mahama would be facing jail time.
Speaking at a political rally in the Ashanti Region, NAPO slammed Mahama for alleged mismanagement and corruption during his tenure as president. He accused Mahama of being complicit in several controversial deals, including the infamous “bus branding” scandal, which occurred during his presidency. NAPO went on to suggest that the former president had escaped justice due to the lack of accountability at the time.
"If the ghost of President Mills existed today, you would have been in jail by now for all the corruption you committed under your administration," NAPO said, drawing attention to various allegations of financial mismanagement during Mahama’s time in office. The comment was a direct reference to the late President John Atta Mills, whose anti-corruption stance was well known during his presidency.
Mahama’s government was marred by allegations of corruption, which he has consistently denied. Despite this, the accusations have remained a significant talking point for his political opponents. NAPO's statement reflects the NPP's ongoing campaign to discredit Mahama, as they continue to emphasize what they argue is the NDC’s failure to tackle corruption.
Mahama has yet to directly respond to NAPO’s remarks, but his supporters have dismissed the accusations as political attacks. In recent speeches, Mahama has focused on criticizing the current government’s economic policies, particularly in regard to rising inflation and the handling of the country's debt.
As Ghana’s 2024 general election nears, the rivalry between the NPP and NDC is expected to intensify, with both parties using a combination of past achievements and criticisms to sway voters. NAPO's comments serve as the latest in a series of jabs aimed at Mahama, as the NPP works to maintain its grip on power.
