Dancehall Queen Spice Empowers Accra Students with MYO Global Foundation Donation
Grammy-nominated dancehall icon Grace Latoya Hamilton, popularly known as Spice, has left a lasting impact in Ghana through her charitable contributions during her visit. On Friday, November 22, 2024, Spice collaborated with the MYO Global Foundation to support students from three basic schools in the La Dade Kotopon Municipality of Accra as part of her tour.
The beneficiary schools—La Anglican 1 Junior High School, La Anglican 2 Junior High School, and Anglican AME A Primary School—received a variety of essential educational supplies and financial aid aimed at improving learning conditions. Spice, known for her inspiring rise from humble beginnings in Old Britain, Jamaica, used the occasion to share her personal story of resilience and the transformative power of education. “Education opened doors for me that I never imagined possible. It's crucial that we invest in these young minds and provide them with the tools they need to succeed,” she told the students.
The donations included new school uniforms and shoes for underprivileged students, whiteboards, classroom supplies, hygiene products, and nutritional snacks. Additionally, Spice made a cash donation to further support the schools' needs, emphasizing her dedication to empowering students and improving educational infrastructure.
Sarah Matey, the Headmistress of La Anglican Basic School, expressed profound gratitude for the donation. She highlighted the struggles faced by many students due to economic hardships, noting how the provision of uniforms and shoes would alleviate significant burdens. “These uniforms and shoes will make a tremendous difference in their daily lives and academic journey. This support will inspire many of our students to continue striving for excellence,” she said.
Miss Deborah Opoku Sarfo, Projects Officer for MYO Global Foundation, underscored the importance of the initiative in fulfilling the foundation’s mission. “When children have access to proper educational resources, they're better positioned to focus on their studies and achieve their full potential.
