President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to rally behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming 2024 elections, describing him as a highly capable leader who can propel Ghana to new heights of development.

Speaking to a gathering of professionals in Kumasi on Sunday, November 24, President Akufo-Addo expressed unwavering confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership qualities and his ability to deliver a transformative agenda for the country. He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s extensive experience in governance and his clear vision for development make him the ideal candidate to build on the achievements of the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

In a direct critique of former President John Dramani Mahama, Akufo-Addo labeled him a “failed leader” whose previous term in office did not warrant a second chance. He argued that while other presidents, including Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, and himself, were given two terms due to their impactful governance, Mahama was denied a second term because of his poor performance.

“The only one who was not given a second term was John Dramani Mahama, and the reason is that he did a poor job,” the President stated emphatically.

Akufo-Addo also underscored the pivotal role of the Ashanti Region in ensuring a decisive NPP victory. He reminded the audience of the importance of a strong voter turnout and urged the region to avoid repeating the mistakes of 2008, when the NPP lost power.

“We have two people in the race: one, a failed president, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said. “Unity and support for Dr. Bawumia are crucial to our success. We must not make the mistake of 2008 again.”

The President highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s track record, describing him as hardworking and innovative, and called on Ghanaians to give him a chance to lead the nation. Akufo-Addo believes that under Bawumia’s leadership, Ghana will witness significant growth and progress.

The gathering in Kumasi formed part of a broader effort to mobilize support for Dr. Bawumia as the NPP prepares for the 2024 elections. Akufo-Addo’s message reinforced the party’s commitment to continuity and development while rejecting the notion of a Mahama comeback.

The President’s remarks are part of a growing narrative within the NPP, positioning Dr. Bawumia as the best candidate to steer Ghana toward a brighter future.
