Mohamed Salah is one of three key Liverpool players who, as things stand, can negotiate with other clubs and even sign a deal for the 2025/26 season onwards from January 1.
And Salah has admitted in quotes released Monday that the club have yet to offer him a contract extension, ramping up the likelihood that he will leave Anfield after the current campaign.
Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are three players Reds fans will want to see commit to the future beyond the current term.
However the Egyptian has now claimed that while he very much wants to stay where his relationship with the fans is so great, he has yet to receive any such statement of intent from club leadership.
"Well, we are almost in December and I haven't received any offers yet to stay in the club, [so] I'm probably more out than in," Salah said in quotes first published by Liverpool Echo.
"You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands.
"As I said before, it is December and I haven't received anything yet about my future.
"I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans' hands. Let's wait and see. Of course [no offer is disappointing], yeah.
"I'm not going to retire soon so I'm just playing, focusing on the season and I'm trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I'm disappointed but we will see.
"I'm very professional. Everybody can see my work ethic. I'm just trying to enjoy my football and I will play at the top level as long as possible.
"I'm just doing my best because this is who I am and I try to give it all for myself and for the club. We will see what happens next."
Whether the club are picking their moment to offer terms, whether these quotes from Salah are part of the negotiation process, or anything else of a similar nature, remains to be seen.
Needless to say, the entire situation and the uncertainty of it will remain a bitter taste for Liverpool fans currently enjoying the side's fine form until we finally see where the story ends.
