Liverpool’s eight-point lead over Manchester City has many predicting a clear path to the Premier League title. However, City legend Sergio Aguero isn’t convinced.

The former striker believes that no lead is too big for Pep Guardiola’s side to overcome, pointing to a moment from his own career as proof.

Another eventful Premier League weekend saw Liverpool extend their advantage by beating Southampton, while City suffered a shock defeat to Tottenham.

This run of results has put the Reds in a commanding position, but Aguero insists the title race is far from decided.

2012 hero Aguero: History could repeat itself

Aguero, who famously scored the winning goal to secure City’s first Premier League title in 2012, drew parallels to that historic season.

Back then, City trailed Manchester United by eight points with just six games left. For Stake.com, he explained why Liverpool’s lead might not matter.

Premier League table as of April 10, 2012

Position     Team    Played      GD

1. Manchester United 32 +51 79

2 .Manchester City 32 +49 71

“Pundits are always quick to call the race, and my response is always the same: it ain’t over until it’s over," Aguero said.

"The current point advantage may be insignificant by the end of the season.

"The 2011-12 season had us eight points below United, and we took that trophy.

"Of course, beating Liverpool will certainly help, but it’s not wise to make such sweeping statements when the tournament still has a long way to go."

City will face Liverpool at Anfield this Sunday in a pivotal clash. A win would cut the gap to just five points, but a loss could see Liverpool extend their lead to 11.

For Aguero, though, the belief in City’s ability to fight back remains strong.
