Ghanaian football star Alidu Seidu who plays as a defender for both the French Ligue 1 club Rennes and the Ghana Black Star underwent a serious injury during Stade Rennais' Ligue 1 game against Lille on Sunday evening
The 24-year-old was pressured to step out of the pitch just a few minutes into the match due to the unpleasant descending which caused him to disrupt the cruciate ligaments in his left knee.
The player was treated out of the pitch for several minutes before returning to continue with the game but all effects were unveiled. He was later seen on crutches, determining his condition's seriousness. He was replaced by Mikayil Faye a Senegalese defender.
Alidu Seidu will go to the hospital for a scan to show how deep his injury has caused him and when he will be out of action. Jorge Sampaoli, manager of the Stade Rennais team, highlighted the injury's extent. He said, "I can’t diagnose; we will do tests tomorrow."
Lille secured the match with a 1-0 victory at the Decathlon Arena-Stade Pierre-Mauroy. The first-half goal by Edon Zhegrova decided the outcome.
The football star has been a key player for the Stade Rennais team since he joined the club in January 2024, and has earned the September Player of the Month award. He has featured in 11 matches this season, demonstrating solid defensive contributions despite not scoring or providing an assist.
The 24-year-old star was not able to represent Ghana in the recent AFCON qualifier against Niger due to a prior injury but he played a crucial part in the first-leg match in Morocco, where he scored his first goal for the Black Stars.
The injury is a significant setback for Seidu, but he will aim for a swift recovery to resume his impressive performances for Stade Rennais. As the club pushes for a stronger position in Ligue 1, Seidu’s eventual return will be vital to their ambitions.
